The European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced on 17 September the team of Commissioners that will comprise of the EU political leadership as well as the new policy portfolios that will be divided among them.

This announcement demonstrates von der Leyen’s vision on the policies that will feature in the EU Policy agenda within the next 5-year mandate. The main political figures that will be responsible to drive these policies forward are now clear as well, and should be in office from 1 December 2024, subject to a Parliamentary confirmation vote.

The policy agenda will help companies to anticipate which new policy and legislative initiatives will follow in the medium term. Ultimately, once these policies materialize after the end of the EU-level negotiations,  new compliance requirements would be kicking in, requiring an array of preparatory steps.

Our client alert dives into our first thoughts on what this new Commission could entail, but more importantly, a selection of the topics likely to dominate the next 5-year policy agenda.
